Parking and Drop Off Areas: Christ’s College is having major building alterations. If you are bringing school groups we suggest you park minivans etc in the Christ’s College Carpark at the corner of Gloucester & Montreal Streets, diagonally opposite Cranmer Square. The entrance is off Gloucester Street which is on the left hand side of one way system just past the Christchurch Art Gallery.
There is also short term parking in the Botanical Gardens.
Entry to the Main Hall is via the Rolleston Ave entrance.

Parking and Drop Off Areas: The drop off area is about 50 meters inside the school gate at the entrance of the Sports Centre (this will be clearly signed). Those parking should use the underground car park which will be clearly signed and is also accessed from Clyde Street.

- 9.30am - 4pm: Workshop
- Morning tea and lunch will be provided. We will do our best to cater for any dietary needs so if in doubt come and ask one of the team.
Very important: You will be required to remain at the workshop venue throughout the day from 9.15am - 4.00pm. Your school or parent/caregiver is responsible for arranging transport for a 9.00am registration and a 4.00pm pick up. This may have been organised with parents or whānau.
What to Bring
Please don’t wear your school uniform.
Wear comfortable, clean, appropriate clothing. We suggest you wear layers -it might be hot or quite cold during the day.
Bring your own drink bottle for water.
Bring a small bag or backpack with your equipment in it. Make sure it is easily recognisable as yours. Don’t bring the kitchen sink.
Keep your valuables at home. We are not responsible for any items you bring - it is your responsibility to keep personal items safe.
A mobile phone, if you have one, charged and ready for use. Keep it with you and ensure it is clearly labelled. You won’t need to bring laptops or tablets.

The Find Your Billion Workshop has been designed to cater for a diverse range of high school age learners. You will get to mix with lots of people so please make sure you show respect for others and for the host school.

If we register does that automatically mean we are in?
Your application will be considered in within 5 working days. It may not be possible to include all who apply as we seek to have a diverse range of students at the event. We will have a waiting list for those unsuccessful in the first round.
I live out of a main centre. Can I attend?
Absolutely. You do need to organise your transport to and from the event. You will need to fill in a form closer to the event, for H&S purposes. This will need parental consent if you are under 18.
Note: for those attending the Christchurch event our sponsor Christ’s College will provide a free night’s accommodation and breakfast.
Do you have to register through a school?
No, individuals can register. We hope you might encourage your school to become involved but that’s not always possible. We recognise that participants may be of high school age but come from a range of different places and backgrounds.
Is it too late to register?
We are almost at full capacity for these events. If in doubt, fill in the registration form and we will get back to you. We will also add you to the database so you can receive links to great conversations about exponential technologies, grand challenges and other Find Your Billion opportunities.
As a teacher how will I know if students have registered independently from my school?
Our ticketing office will contact you, if you have registered a school group. It is your responsibility to follow up with students on your list. If you have registered as a school and students register independently from your school group they may be accepted, but we have an expected maximum of ten students per school unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Preparing for the event
Is this a competition?
No it's not a competition. We want the day to be as inclusive and creative as possible There will be spot-prizes and rewards on offer (including the opportunity to pitch at an idea at The SingularityU NZ Summit in November). However, these will not necessarily be awarded directly to teams but will be given for examples of awesomeness during activities that take place prior to and during the workshops.
If we have registered as a school are there any guidelines for selection of students?
The day itself will include a variety of workshops focussed on developing ideas using exponential technologies to solve some of humanity's greatest challenges. Some of these may take place within teams where participants know one another, while other activities may involve the students self-organising into teams made up of a wide range of ages, ethnicities, schools, etc. This is likely to have an effect on the way you select students. The students most suitable are likely to be those who will be able to deal with uncertain situations and thrive. While subject knowledge might help, character, creativity and determination are likely to be more vital.
How do we prepare for the event?
In September you will receive questions, ideas and links to challenge your thinking. These aren’t compulsory but we hope your curiosity is aroused and that you engage in conversations with your friends.

What about Health and Safety?
Follow your own school Health and Safety procedures if you are bringing a school group. You will have received a School Registration form explaining the guidelines for the event and have signed off on these, and also ensured that all students fill in an Individual Registration form. Those registering as individuals, rather than as part of a school group, are also required to acknowledge the guidelines for attendance. The FYB team have worked with the school venues to ensure that Health and Safety requirements have been considered. In registering for this event participants have agreed to follow the guidelines of the host school and the FYB programme regarding Health and Safety, pick-up and delivery times and expectations of behaviour. At the start of each event participants and volunteers will be briefed about the Health and Safety requirements of the host venue and be expected to follow these during the day.
Participants will need to notify the FYB team of any medications they are carrying, as recorded on their registration form. A first aid kit and designated first aider will be available at each venue.
